G-LEC’s Solaris for Germany’s SMS festival
This year’s SonneMondSterne Festival (SMS) was the perfect launch pad for G-LEC’s new Solaris+, which literally took centre stage in the main tent, in the shape of a stunning LED chandelier.
With all lighting and video equipment in the main tent provided by event services agency HELI-Showequipment, the company’s director Uwe Heinrich took the opportunity to use G-LEC’s Solaris+ to create a spectacular 12m diameter light sculpture. Consisting of 64 ropes of Solaris+, each one 8m long, the chandelier was programmed with video content of different colours, which pulsed and changed with the beat of the music. With the chandelier’s amazing lighting above them combined with a laser display, clubbers danced to both music and colour!
The Solaris+ LED system, which is now available to rent from HELI-Showequipment, is an extremely cost effective way to bring eye catching video and graphics effects to any event. Up to 8m long ‘ropes’ of 40mm diameter balls provide 360° viewing of images or messages, and the ropes can be hung in line as curtains or in groups for maximum effect. Completely flexible, the ropes can be curved or wound into any shape. With Solaris+, each LED unit is individually driven via a DVI video signal. Such freedom offers lighting and event designers a wide range of possibilities, enabling Solaris+ to be used for low resolution video screens, innovative 3D light chases and fantastic light shows.
Now in its 15th year, SMS is known for its array of electronic beats, with stars such as DJ Rush, Ellen Allien, Miss Kittin and the Turntablerockers demonstrating their talent over the three day event. Held in Saalburg, near Frankfurt, the festival offers the choice of five tents.
At SMS 2010, in addition to the Solaris+, 96 GLP Impressions were used in the main tent for a show that was programmed to fit the video content perfectly.
